Lisa Nolan is an award winning artist based in central Victoria. She has been drawing since she could hold a pencil, and draws every day. During the pandemic, zoom life drawing became a necessity, and although she still regularly attends zoom sessions, it is a pleasure to return to in real life sessions.
Lisa’s work is in collections internationally and her work is widely exhibited in Australia. She was invited to be part of the Scottish Borders Life Drawing Group that exhibited in Albi in 2022, in the south of France with work created in the online sessions.
Lisa has two solo exhibitions in 2023, Local Views at Unicorn Lane, Ballarat and ReFrame at 26 Advantage, Highett.
Portraiture has always fascinated Lisa, and when working as a court artist she covered some of the most notorious cases in Victoria and Tasmania. When the occasion allows, she loves ‘sniper drawing,’ or drawing unsuspecting people while in public spaces.
She also loves the landscape and often paints the central Victorian landscape where she lives.
A well-respected teacher, she conducts workshops in portraiture, the figure, landscape and still life, and in a range of various media.
Lisa Nolan is a very thoughtful and patient art teacher, when I joined her art classes I had not drawn anything since High school and was recovering from a stroke, she spoke in a language that I could understand and her demonstrations were easy to follow> I felt that I got the most out to her lessons, even though my concentration due to my stroke was limited. I could keep up with the class, thank you Lisa.
I have attended drawing lessons with Lisa over the past couple of years and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Under her valuable guidance, I have learnt so much about the subtle nuances of bringing pictures to life using various mediums and shading techniques.
I started Lisa’s drawing classes with absolutely zero artistic ability. She taught me from scratch and how to see things I wanted to draw differently. She covered still life, portraiture, life models, etc. using a variety of mediums. The results of these lessons impress family, friends and especially myself. Lisa can teach anyone to draw.
I really enjoyed the learning situations which Lisa created to bring out the best in her students. I felt a strong sense of achievement which she reinforced frequently in a most encouraging way. In her classes there was an air of friendship and compatibility which seemed to enable all of us to achieve more than we thought possible. Thank you so much Lisa
Lisa is a very talented artist. Her drawing classes have really helped me with my technique and with the way I approach my work. She has provided many varied subjects to sketch and always gives helpful feedback.
